NOTE: All three of these hotels are in downtown Buffalo and in walking distance of the subway line that takes one directly to the Canisius College campus, where the conference will be held. Internet in each room. This hotel does not have an airport shuttle, but taxis are easy to get from the airport to the hotel at a cost of around $35-40. Notes on the neighborhood: This hotel is in the 'Allentown' neighborhood. It is a slight walk to the subway (less than three blocks). This neighborhood has many small restaurants and bars (more than in the 'downtown' area). If you have a restricted diet (and seek vegan or gluten-free restaurants), if you prefer independently-owned places, or if you seek craft beers or wine, Allentown is the neighborhood for you. For coffee there is Cafe 59, which also serves vegan and gluten-free options. The Towne Diner is good for a late-night omelet or for Greek food. And for a great drink, you cannot beat Allentown Hardware Cafe. Also: Merge (specializes in organic and vegan options), a new Italian place called Madonna's, Quaker bakery, a new Ethiopian place, and a cafe that specializes in grilled-cheese, and a good used-bookstore, Rust Belt Books. Plus a bar called Nietzsche's in this neighborhood! Notes on the neighborhood: This hotel is more 'downtown,' near Chippewa (an area famous for its undergrad drinking establishments!). Right next to this hotel is Spot Coffee, which has great coffee, snacks and atmosphere. You are about a 3-block walk from the subway line. Restaurants include: Thai (Papaya), Tex-Mex (Salsaritas), steak and up-scale food (Buffalo Chop House), French up-scale (Rue Franklin), and sushi (Seabar and Encore).
